44 Portland Road is a fine example of a superb three storey detached Victorian Townhouse, within the St Augustine’s conservation area, which was comprehensively renovated and sympathetically modernised to an exceedingly high level of specification. The spacious and most well appointed accommodation was set upon three floors and extended to around 3,671 sq ft.
This fine by neglected large townhouse was purchased in 2003. It had been converted sometime in the 1970s from a family house into three large two bedroom flats, which occupied the whole property, two of which were accessed via a rather unsightly staircase, which had been added to the rear of the property.
We stripped the property back to what it must have resembled when last used as a family home.
Some of the rooms were reworked to allow for modern family living. This included the installation of a suspended concrete floor over the cellar to accommodate the new kitchen, w/c and large utility rooms.
New staircases, together with half landings, were reinstalled. Extensive decorative timber work and cornice plaster work repairs were carried out together with fireplace overhauls.
